I know it’s kind of cheesy, but one of my favorite adages about God/a higher power comes from the movie Evan Almighty (2007). You know, that movie where Morgan Freeman plays God, just like he did in the previous (and albeit better) Bruce Almighty? Anyway, there’s this scene where God comes to Evan’s wife disguised as a restaurant server while she is contemplating whether she believes her husband’s calling to build an Ark. God/Freeman responds by asking her hypothetically: “When someone prays for patience, does God give them patience, or does He give them an opportunity to be patient?”
